Now, when you stop to take stock of the implications of this, you will agree that this pretty much sums up what is wrong with the world today.
The mind boggles at what the difference is between cuts to warrant the (hang on while I consult my calculator) $23 discrepancy. Foils? Tints? Herbal shampoo and head massage? Complimentary rose hip tea served in an earthen pot baked in a Tibetan kiln?
There is something immediately trustworthy and righteous about a barber cut. Short back and sides, no nonsense. An old weather-beaten professional who uses his razor like a master painter.
Conversely, there is something immediately unsettling and disconcerting about a man seeking a 'style cut', and who is happy to hand over an extra $23 (that he could otherwise have spent on hot dogs and Cold Chisel albums) for no apparent reason, other that to be delicately man-scaped and have a silly swept-over fringe that he will be forever playing with and flicking out of his eyes so he can actually see.
This, my friends, is the way the world ends. Not with a bang, but a style cut.

life is a choose your own adventure, with many possible endings.
Of course, in the last 500 years there have been plenty of times and places where guys who spent a lot of time and money on their fancy hair styles could also run you through with a very pointy blade if you used that as a reason to impugn their manliness.... Masculinity is very cultural!
So I should be worried that this week my husband and I had a joint trip to the hairdresser where he spent more than I did to have his hair, ever so artfully, turn blue?
Joanna- But they were running people thru to prove themselves, because they knew deep down in their heart of hearts that they looked like silly.
Thus, much violence was needlessly perpetrated because of their insecurities. Had they settled for the barber cuts, the world would now be a much more peaceful place.
Amy- Yes.
This is why I go to a barber (who happens to be a woman also trained as a hairdresser - yes, apparently they are different trades).
Quite frankly I don't see why I should pay $50 for a trim of my fringe and chopping off the split ends, just because I have "long" hair, when my barber will do the same job for $16 (same price as she charges the blokes).
