Bye, Opes

Oprah finished up her whole talk show thing the other day, after 25 years. We watched a little bit of the final show, it was weird and cringey in some ways, but also felt strangely momentous at the same time. Even a little bit touching.

That is one seriously powerful woman, the sway she has is massive. The expression on the faces of the women in the audience was just this complete idolising 'tell me how it is, guru' kinda look, they were hanging on every word. Gotta say though, she is a pretty good orator. So comfortable on stage, the words just seem to come without any obvious cues.

She said some interesting Christianish spriritualish stuff as well, though it was hard to decipher really where she was at. Some talk about God, a mention of Jesus, but also a fair whack of mumbo jumbo thrown in there as well. A lot about the Self, and energy and fulfilling your destiny and whatnot.

Anyone else see any of it?

She's "spiritual", but she's definitely not a Christian.

What a complete waste of airtime.

She just tells people want they want to hear like a walking billboard. The advertisers love her. Puts money in all their pockets.

They're all sheep looking for someone to idolise, the stoopid seppos.
They can have her.

Thank God she's off air. Finally.

How is it that someone who has done nothing of note for anybody has so much 'power'?!?!

So, just to clarify, you're a fan then?

Now Ben, enough of this Oprah drivel.

When are you going to post about Downton Abbey?

I missed it. My favourite show was on at the same time. How was it? Worth watching from now on?

I never really "got" period dramas. But I liked this one a lot. Which could either mean it was very good, or very bad.

If you were going to watch it, you probably need to see the first episode which sets up the relationships well. It's on seven plus for a week or so if you have plenty of internet.

The strange thing though was having commercials. The few period dramas I've watched were either hired movies, or on the ABC. It certainly takes you out of the experience of the thing to be interrupted by an ads for fast food and cars.

You now, I was so turned off it by the channel 7 ads that I originally thought it'd be crap. The ads were like that awful 20 to 1 show where they have G list celebs candidly talking about how much they like it. Yep, I care what an AFLplayer thinks of a period drama.

Perdiod dramas definitely belong on ABC
