Lost

I'm feeling very at sea this morning. Yesterday arvo I somehow got off the bus without my backpack, and was wandering about Town Hall for ten minutes before I even realised there was nothing on my back.  I always check the seat ten times before I get off a bus, and pat my pockets to check I have all the necessary bits and pieces.  But, somehow yesterday, I was just lost in my thoughts, and get off without my whole bag.

It makes me feel sick in the stomach, there was so much important stuff in there- house keys, work keys, car keys, my glasses, my books, notebooks, my Bible from E, ,my USB with a stack of important stuff on there, etc, etc, etc...

We've done all we can- put an ad on Gumtree, called the lost property at the bus depot.  I really, really hope it turns up.  In the meantime, I need to try and get over it, not get all bitter and stupid, and not obsess over it.  I find that hard.

I know how you feel Ben. I get so mad at myself when I do dumb things like lose important stuff. I think that is one reason why I get nervous about travelling on planes, there are just so many opportunities to lose things!

Ah Ben! Sorry. I know something of how you feel. I got off a bus once with my other bag and my coat, but not my backpack that had keys, phone, wallet etc in. I wandered across the road before realising. But, the happy ending for me is that then I realised, busted out the old primary school athletics champion, and sprinted down the busy footpath like a woman possessed and, thanks to a red light, actually managed to catch the bus at the next stop and get it back. But what I would have done had a lost all those things I don't know ... (I'd have had to walk to the house of somebody I knew to even ask for help). Hope it turns up.

What a day-ruiner. I hope it turns out well.

Oh, Ben! Sympathy upon sympathy! That's just such a bummer.

That would have me stressed out in a major way too.
I do hope it turns up again.
Ali, amazing story!! I really hope I never have to bust out the primary school athletics skills here, I don't think they'd cut it at all these days....

I feel for you! I had a very similar thing happen late last year - rushing to the airport, my bag in a taxi, the taxi didn't have a baby seat so I got out and he drove off with my bag. No way to track it down as I hadn't paid. It had wallet, keys, business cards, tablet PC, conference papers, ipod - aagghh! As you can see I'm still not full over it - but the pain does get more and more numb :)

Matt that's awful! Call me naive but WHY wouldn't someone return that kind of thing? If I found someone's stuff like that I would think, "Losing this would be horrible! I must do my best to return it." And surely with a wallet in it that wouldn't be too hard! I just can't believe people wouldn't want to do the right thing over something like that.

Wendy- I find the whole idea of sending off a whole suitcase to some unkown place at the airport pretty concerning. A recipe for stress.

Ali-Wow, cool story. Nice to hear one that ended well. Good on you for pinning te ears back and giving chase!

Jess, Deb and Karen, thanks. Still no word..

Matt- Awww man, what a shocker, that must have been terrible! So much important stuff. I'm with Deb- It seems crazy that the driver wouldn't have tracked you down! That's awful.

Karen and Ben - it was quite the workout! It was a cold night and my lungs had so much suddenly required of them, like they haven't had in years, that I sort of wheezed and coughed every now and then for the rest of the evening recovering.

Bummer Ben, I hope it comes back. Sounds like your wallet might not have been in there? Which is even more reason for people to return it, because what would you do with someone else's keys etc.

Yeah, my wallet, phone and mp3 player weren't in there, which I'm very grateful for. The problem is, finding my info may not be that easy without my wallet. They'd have to be a bit of a slueth to find my contact details I think. Most people may not be bothered:(

Ben, not having your contact details in there could be a bit of a blessing in disguise. Afterall, that means your keys are keys for an unknown place. So glad you didn't lose your phone. That's grief. Oh and joy of still having your wallet! If you were a girl (and I'm not calling you one, mate, I really ain't) you wouldn't have had your wallet on your person and it would be gone, gone, gone.
