Does My Bonnet Look Big In This?

The other day Deb linked to a couple of quiz things that use Highly Scientific Calculational Methodologies to determine which Jane Austen character you are. Something that's clearly important to know. Old readers might know of my fond love/hate relationship with all things periodramaesque, the reason why I couldn't resist having a crack at this myself. The first quiz Deb linked to only had girl characters, so I did the second one which had both mans and wimmins.

The excitement was palpable as I filled in the little boxes. Who would I be? Which finely spoken, broodingly sideburned, high-pantedly handsome, aloof yet intriguing fella would I come up as?  I decided I'd be okay with anyone up the Darcy end of the spectrum rather than the Mr Collins end.

But, lo and behold, it turned out that I'm actually on a different spectrum altogether.

From here on in, kindly address me as Ms Catherine Morland of Northanger Abbey, if you will. I haven't read that book, but I did watch a tele version of it this one time. Not sure I approve of being a 17 year old girl, to be honest, but I looked up her character on Wikipedia, and maybe we have a few more things in common than I thought..

*She likes reading Gothic novels. Tick.

*Her appearance is described as 'pleasing, and, when in good looks, pretty'. Totally tick.

*Sometimes makes the mistake of applying Gothic novels to real life situations. Tick. A frequent mistake of mine.

*She is good-natured and frank and often makes insightful comments on the inconsistencies and insincerities of people around her, usually to Henry Tilney, and thus is unintentionally sarcastic and funny. Well, I don't interact with anyone called Henry Tilney, but all the other stuff, yep for sure. It's like Jane Austen was looking into my soul when she invented that character.

Anyways, if you have sufficient gumption, pop over to Deb's and do the quiz. But don't blame me if they decide to give you a brand spanking new gender.

In the first one I got Elinor Dashwood. In the second one I got Catherine Morland. High 5 for Catherine Morland.

HAHAHA! I thought there'd be a box you could tick to choose the gender!

My top two are Mr Bingley and then Mr Darcy. Elizabeth Bennet is third on the list - I'm obviously a Pride and Prejudice kinda girl. Or... guy.

Can't wait to do the quiz myself... I am always a sucker for Jane Austen quizzes. I always never fail to come out as Jane from Pride and Prejudice and each time I am just a little more disappointing... Jane is just so, so, soooo good and gentle, two things I don't see myself as being! Wonder if I will get different results this time. A man would be a refreshing change. Meanwhile, I am still chuckling over your post. You are great, Ben!

Oh, Dawn, I'd love to come out as Jane! You must be lovely to know!

Hilarious. I was Elinor Dashwood for both. How interesting it would have been to come out as a bloke...

Depending on which day you get me...

I'm Anne Elliot.

Or I'm Mr Bingley.
