After reading this post from Karen yesterday, I'm feeling inspired to try and read the Bible through in a year, using this chronological reading plan.
My reading has been going okayish, but tends to be a bit aimless, so I wouldn't mind putting a bit of structure in place and working towards a goal. It seems like a cool plan too, especially the chronological aspect- for instance, David's psalms are placed alongside what's happening in his life, in Samuel and Chronicles. I reckon that would be a helpful perspective to get.
I do have a couple of hesitations though. The first is that you are reading often multiple chapters a day, which is fine, but I tend to get disheartened pretty easily, and I don't want to just set myself up for failure. The second is that on this plan it's a loooong time, about 3/4 of a year, before you get to read any New Testament. Dunno.
But I'm thinking I'll have a crack, along with Karen. Anyone done this reading plan? Anyone keen to have a go? I'm thinking I'll start in a day or two maybe..

I was totally thinking JUST YESTERDAY about whether or not there were such a thing as chronological Bibles! This is obviously a sign - I'm totally going to have a crack.
I get a little freaked out by reading plans too, but I think if I'm in this for the chronology rather than the in-a-year, it'll keep me calm and committed. And I'm excited about diving into the OT for so long! I too often focus on the NT when choosing a book to study (and church/Bible study leans that way, too) - it'd be good to balance this out better. Yay! Thanks for the idea (and to Karen for inspiring you, and to the women who inspired her - this is heaps better than chain letters!)!
I'm up to Day 4 :) Have to do five chapters of Job today.
I agree with you Belle, it's the chronological aspect that was the hook to get me in too. I'm pretty sure I'll be missing days here and there, that's why I'm starting in advance of the 1 Jan start date on the plan itself and I'm hoping that I won't end up too far behind.
Re the fear of hanging out in the OT too long, I've decided to do the reading plan as my own personal Bible reading, but I also do an "up-late" reading session with my husband (which changes book/ topic every month or so), so I'm thinking if I'm feeling a bit too OT-drenched, then I'll just choose a few more NT based studies for those ones.
Belle- that's very cool. I love it when things just kind of click with timing. I guess it's God putting something in your path when it's the right time. Glad you are going to try it too. I think I'll start tomorrow.
Karen- Thanks again for the link, I'm excited about starting. I hope Job doesn't get you down too much!
My husband and I read the bible chronologically together over a few years. It does get a bit hard going in the sections where there is more than one record of things and you read it again and again but there is a benefit in that too I suppose!
