God Saw That It Was Not Good

The election looms and I still see no one who I want to back and put my vote behind.  It's sad.

The other day while driving, we saw some regional Liberal persons billboard poster, and her slogan, the one thing she had opted to emblazon her sign with, were the words 'Stronger Borders.'  Yes, Australia, that is what we all should most be concerned about. The biggest threat we face as a wealthy country is the occasional rickety boat of people trying to find some sort of safety and decent living conditions for their families. Let's throw all our power towards stopping them.

Speaking of boats, this article was in the Herald this morning, about church billboards.

It's a tricky one.

I'm all for stopping the boats - there's far too many people drowning for no good reason.

I have no interest in stronger borders though.

It feels like (as in far too much politically), this issue has become a dichotomy - either you don't care about refugees and therefore we must have mandatory detention, or you do care for them, and so we should let the boats keep coming (and sinking).

You can also care for refugees, want to help many more and still think we should "stop the boats". How do we do that?
Well, that's the tricky part, but that shouldn't stop us trying.

I voted yesterday and yes, it was depressing.
