Night Visitor

While we were staying at Kangaroo Valley, we encountered a fair bit of wildlife. On our first night, E was feeling pretty edgy, as there were a bunch of lizards scurrying about inside. Kind of like your common garden variety, but up to, say, 20cm long. They were cute, but you didn't really want them crawling over your foot while you were watching tele.

Anyhow, after catching a few and putting them outside (see photo), I was trying to reassure E that it would be alright now, and so, starting to calm down, she climbed into bed. A few moments later, she threw the sheets back, and with a squeal, lept up and out of the bed, bringing a 20cm lizard also leaping up and out of the bed with her. It was traumatic for poor E, but hilarious for this bystander.

Understandably, she had a bit of a rough night's sleep after that..

Lizards are a good thing. When I was growing up (near kangaroo valley) we figured if the lizards disappeared it meant we had a snake (either they got eaten or scared off), but if there were plenty of lizards it meant we didn't have a snake living nearby.

Cool that you grew up near Kangaroo Valley, Bonnie. There actually was a snake there too (I'll blog about it soon)-- he was a big black snake, and I found him in the same place every day. At first I was scared, then I grew to like him.
