Yesterday, the whole of the Sydney Anglican Diocese linked up and shared the same service, watching on screens Peter Jensen speak from Kellyville. I thought it was a good idea, and thought Peter Jensen's talk was really great, touching on what has definitely been in my heart, regarding the Connect 09 mission later in the year.
He said the two biggest things standing in our way are a fear of rejection, and a fear of not having the right things to say. He also said that these things can be overcome.

I'm hopeful and prayerful that Connect09 will be the fillip people need to start thinking about how to go out into the community with the gospel, rather than expecting the community to hear it on our terms (in our church meetings or at our 'special events').
It'll require a massive shift in thinking, though. A quick look at the 'Your ideas' section of the Connect09 website reveals most people are thinking about how to get people to events or to church. Maybe I've just missed the posts which say, "Just hang out at the pub or café where people are and get to know them. Play cricket in the park. Let your Christian and non-Christian worlds collide. Walk the dog with someone else."
I like your thinking, Stuart. I kind of feel embarressed about the whole 'special event' thing. If I was not a Christian and I got invited to some special event, I would run a mile. Come into my parlour, said the spider to the fly.
ps- it was pter who spoke, not fillip.
