How To, Like, Totally Talk Gen Y

If I were Gen Y, I would use the term, 'owned' whenever I could.

Many things these young whippersnappers do to the English language, I shake my head at and mumble cantankerously to myself, 'when I was a boy, I would never have..etc'

But I am pro-'owned', and I encourage you to be as well.

Here's some examples of how to use it:

'I, like, totally owned that maths test, LOL'

'I totally, like, love, like, Britney Spears.. she, like totally owns'

Now, go forth and use with boldness and abundance.

Hmm I did not know any of this.

Just did a bit of googling and sure enough here it is - http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=pwned

Love it - the urban dictionary

It's funny when old people discover words that I use in my regular speech.

Don't worry old Ben, I won't tease you because you are out of touch with the youth of today!

;)

wow, I didn't know about the whole pwned thing. Not sure how you pronounce that.... Rodeo?

Thanks for the tip Stuart, and the link, Lairdy.

Rodeo, come and sit on my knee, and I'll tell you a story from the olden days.

Pronounce it "poned", like "phoned".

It came about from online gaming where people would type "owned" to their vanquished competitors, and the frequency of the typo led to it becoming a term in its own right.

If you were Gen Y, you'd also know it's spelt with a P, like Stuart says ;)

Still pronounced 'owned' :) (P is silent). It stems from typos - the 'o' is right beside the 'p', so when people typed "owned", "pwned" was a common typo... and it kinda stuck.
