mate...just so you can fix it quick. The word is an abreviation for 'applications' so it would be 'aPPs'...better sort that out eh?...

I have one for yuh Benno. BGdefs. For some stupid reason (a French reason I'm told) BGs on Sally Bollywood are called BGdefs - pronounced "beegee-defs". I can't stand it! I asked what it meant and was told that it stands for the definitive BG, as in the final one. But they aren't, as they get changed from time to time. One for the animation nerds!

I'm all for BG Def. It's got a bit of a mid-80's rap vibe to it.

Gotta love stoopid terminology.

I hadn't thought about this, but has 'apps' just come into mainstream use since the iPhone and iPod Touch?

Ben McLaughlin said...

Yep. I hadn't really heard of it until the trendy and annoying iphone users invaded the world.

I have deep fears that in time computerish nerdery will be not only common and acceptable, but welcomed.

We need to fight the good fight. Meet me midnight at the old mill.

Ah, see, us Mac users have been using the term since at least the early 90s. What do you call them on Windows? Programmes? Executables?

Any road, you won't be able to recruit me to your luddite cause, I'm afraid.

Oh Stuart, you presume too much. Way back in the mid 80's I sat at my Dad's ancient Mac, wiling away hours with Brickles, Stuntcopter and Scarab of Ra. I never even touched a PC until a few years ago.

All I'm saying is use the whole word, rather than get all silly and use only a few letters of it.

You come across as an intelligent guy who likes language and words. You of all people should appreciate this call to reformation.

Scarab of Ra! Wow, that brings back some memories :) Now I see where the entomophilia comes from!
