Simone- That's not bad. It has a bit of a medieval vibe.

Milika- Good fish names, I like 'em. I'm curious about what you mean by 'recovered', but you don't have to say if you don't want to.

Georgina- I read that book a couple of months back. It was funny. I'm fairly sure there was no ferret action though. By the way, I hope it's 'Rosemary' and not 'Basil'.

Nath- Just do your own quiz and call it something different. No one will notice. Except me, who may or may not seethe with resentment.

Maso- Heh. Pat the Cat. Are you liking 1984? That's one I've always intended to read. I listened to an abridged talking book of it read by Vincent Price, which was pretty cool.

Mark- What's this Mistborn thing? Is it a bit of a new fad thing? I've heard it mentioned a fair bit lately. And yeah, asking girls out is massively daring. My stomach gets all knotty remembering that prospect.

Amy- I have only read one Terry Pratchett book. All I remember was some strange thing about the world being a giant turtle or something. And yeah, I have that secret wish too. Life would be so much less stressy.

Ben McLaughlin said...

Sophg- No offense, but omigosh. Farquharson. That is kind of awesome in an unusual way. Where did that come from? Nice form with Julia. You gotta not let these polly's get too big for their boots.

10. Not really a secret, but I wish jesus would return so i can enjoy not having chronic fatigue and not being on my own without a family of my own.

Joanna- Walk-up evangelism is nearly as scary as asking a girl out. Anything done in the face of rejection is brave in my books. Sad you didn't like Pulp Fiction. There are ew bits, but I reckon it's pretty awesome too. Horses for courses.

Soph- Props to you. I'm a no measurements no recipe kinda guy too. See, that's daring right there. I'd forgotten your first name wasn't Sophia. I like your real first name.

Goldy- I didn't realise you had chronic fatigue. I hear it's a pretty awful and debilitating thing. At the risk of sounding trite, I will keep that, and the other stuff too, in my prayers.

4. Your middle name - Delma (after an aunt) Kathryn (because Dad liked it) - thinking of introducing myself as Kate the next time I move to a new place and have to meet lots of new people. P.s. nice spelling Goldy.
5. A movie you wanted to walk out of - I'm with Nathan on this one...but there are movies where I close my eyes in some scenes

7. How are your cooking skills? - not as good as my husband's
8. Something you're saving for - a house but not in the town where I currently live as it's unaffordable (Goldy - I often thought of blowing it on travel when the goal seemed too far out there)
9. The last time you went to the beach - don't remember but I live in a beach town so probably not more than a couple of months
10. Secretly I wish...I was bolder in my interactions with people (e.g. not worrying about what so-n-so thinks; would xxx have said yes if I'd asked him out; walking out the office door at 5pm even if my boss has asked for something "urgent" the day before my RDO...)

hey Ben, can't take credit for Side Show Alley - that genius is all my sister. But I revel in her reflected glow most of the time anyway.

Recovered - had my first staggering bout of Chronic Fatigue in yr 12. spent the next year sleeping and chatting to people in my suburb (whilst working at a video store, plus watching lots of free movies.

Laetitia - I've often become a Melissa on the phone and am seriously considering at my next job using my middle name forever.

Milika - Apart from people not being able to pronounce my name correctly or spell it, I've had callers call me "Pat" because they think I've said "Patricia". I'm left thinking, "Even if my name were Patricia, what would give you the right to shorten it?"

Of course, I have a business website and blog all using "laetitia" in some form so I'm not sure it will work to use "Kate" without careful explanation.

Yes, I guess two names would be confusing.
Plus I think my parents who be sad if changed it - they did work hard to choose it.

Sorry for the tardiness, friends. I'm in holiday mode.

Chris L- I'm glad to hear you say that about Happy Feet. To be honest, I haven't seen it, but I remember being so turned off by the previews, the cutsiness and the hype. I now feel vindicated.

Laetitia- I don't get the thing of changing yr name when you start out in a new circle. Surely you and your name are so intertwined, it would be weird to suddenly be called something else. I've known friends who have done it, and it annoys me when they expects me to suddenly change what I call them. And why choose a common name when you have an interesting one already? Laetitia is a good name. Same with you, Milika.

Lu- Yeah, Pearl Harbour was a bit of a steaming pile. I didn't make it through on dvd. We don't have gerbils here.. though maybe thay are the same as what we call guinea pigs? I'd google it if I wasn't so lazy.

Milika- Thanks for explaining:)

Beth- I secretly wish I was a famous chef too! I really liked Blair Witch, but I can understand you walking out. Either you like that kind of thing or you don't..

Laetitia :-) said...

Hi Ben,

I do like my name, which is why I get annoyed when people butcher the spelling or pronunciation of it (it's really bad when family members or long standing friends can't get it right). It's really tedious and annoying having to spell it all the time for every new person you meet, not to mention having to correct people when they mispronounce it before they introduce you to someone else with the wrong pronunciation!

Mine is La-T-sha if you're wondering; our pastor's wife's cousin is La-tish-a (same spelling) which makesit difficult for Nola when she goes back to visit family after being near me for a while.

Using something like "Kate" is also easier than "Laetitia" in shops where they like to give you personalised service rather than calling out "Number 52, your meal is ready". Trying to get people to understand "Laetitia" when there's a lot of noise in the background is rather difficult.

I figure that since I need to use a business card for people to get the spelling of my URL right anyway, telling people that if they have trouble with Laetitia, they can call me Kate instead may still work.

I don't expect people who already know me as Laetitia to suddenly change what they call me though. When I was a teenager I would get people to call me Phoenix if they couldn't get Laetitia right. I happily answered to either.
