The Quiz -The Next Generation

1. How much money would I have to give you, to get you to not eat chocolate for a whole year?
2. Current favourite show
3. Something you're irrationally afraid of
4. A vegetable you'd happily never eat again
5. You run into someone you haven't seen in ten years, and they say 'you haven't changed a bit'. Pleased or offended?

So friends, as you can see, there have been some changes. Due to the tough economic circumstances that we find ourselves in, the team here at Vanishing Point have had to adapt to survive.

The crew of monkeys (that's not a derogatory term, they literally are actual monkeys)who work hard to bring you your weekly quiz are too costly to keep on. They are no longer happy to work for peanuts (once again, literally), and so the team has been streamlined.

Practically for you, dear consumer, this will mean a pithy 5 questions where once there was a bloated, over-generous 10. But, my beloveds, it is these times of want, that really help us to appreciate our times of plenty.

Missed you and your monkeys Ben.
1. $2465.37 (current dollars)
2. Packed to the Rafters
3. Sharks
4. Squash

Welcome back!

Now, I am a relative latecomer when it comes to your blog, but where do you work? What are you drawing apart from people struggling to answer quiz questions?

Anyways, I digress.
1. How much you got?
2. Grand Designs
3. Preaching with my fly undone
4. Brussel Sprouts
5. I'd probably be offended, even though they're right.

I've heard a lot about your quiz from Izaac, so I'm excited to be able to answer the questions for myself!

1. $100 - I know it'd probably do me good
2. Glee
3. Reflecting on the last year
4. Broad beans
5. Pleased, but curious as to what changes they see

Ben McLaughlin said...

Wow, that was weird, Sarah, I put a comment on your blog at the exact moment you put one on mine. It's like a real life X File.

1. How much money would I have to give you, to get you to not eat chocolate for a whole year? - I don't think that's possible - give a random sum to the monkeys instead. Good to have you and the Monday quiz back, Ben. I'm also with Izaac - where do you work and what do you work at? (So far I've figured something to do with film & TV.)
2. Current favourite show - Since I don't have a TV, possibly anything on ABC Classic FM.
3. Something you're irrationally afraid of - Starvation.
4. A vegetable you'd happily never eat again - Capsicum, although technically that's a fruit.
5. You run into someone you haven't seen in ten years, and they say 'you haven't changed a bit'. Are you pleased or offended? - More concerned that they shouldn't be driving - I had super-short hair in 1999 (and thinner thighs I think).

Sorry to start a flood of personal questions... but it's time for as Rove calls it, a "public probe"

Ben McLaughlin said...

Guthers- Yeah squash sucks badly. It would be a start at least to have a better name than 'squash'.

Izaac- I have about $3.70. Will that be enough?

Sarah- Welcome! Hmm broad beans. I'm no dietician (well, I am really, I just don't have the bit of paper to prove it) but I believe that to be a legume, not a vegetable. But, agreed: gross.

Laetitia- Capsicum would be a big loss. Last night I roasted some, and then put it in a chilli con carne kinda thing with kidney beans. And it was the secret X factor that made it 'a successful dish', as Matt Preston would say.

Okay, I work for a TV production company, and I work in the animation dept. We make children's cartoon series for the tele.

And don't ask 'which ones'. All the dud ones you've never heard of.

1. Oh only about $1000. I'm not too addicted to it.
2. Dexter - yes it is dark and twisted, but i love it
3. Getting a haircut
4. brussels sprout
5.pleased

Ben - aren't Swedes a race of people? I thought the question was about vegetables.

Ben McLaughlin said...

Goldy, frankly that's a little hypocritical seeing as though you are bringing up the fine people of Brussels.

Nathan said...

5. Pleased.

Ben McLaughlin said...

Nathan- Wow, $50.. what I'd like to do is put 10 bucks towards betting you to do this. I'd need another 4 peeps to chip in.

That's crazy.. You do realise this includes no shake of chocolate dust stuff on top of your cappacino..

ps- zuchinni is E's fav veg. I am a fence-sitter. Sometimes it's nice, sometimes horrible.

Bonnie- Cabbage is so underrated. I love cabbage. I even felt a pang of hurt to hear you badmouth it.

Hi Ben,
An occasional Monday quiz is better than none. Don't feel pressured to do it every week...

1. $10000 at least
2. Beauty and the Geek (it's extremely tragic, but oh, they are soooooo funny)
3. Disapproval
4. Beetroot
5. I have changed a lot. I don't mind either way. It's a compliment, and an indication that they don't me very well, and are basing it on a surface thing.

Laetitia :-) said...

Georgina! Where are the ferrets?!

Georgina said...

Lol! I forgot.

Let's see:
1. $10,000 but if you said it's the chocolate or the ferrets, I'd go the ferrets every time.
2. Ferretopia
3. My ferrets escaping
4. Ferrecumber
5. Well, I did have ferrets 10 years ago, but ferret-ownership was all pretty new back then.

1. I couldn't be trusted to keep it, regardless of how much you paid me - I would just forget, because chocolate is in so many things these days.

2. The Office (u.s)

3. butterflies landing on me

4. brussell sprouts

5. they are lying - and I think it patronising

Ben McLaughlin said...

Lu- Yeah, I think I look youngish as well. I don't wear sneakers because they make me fel like a 12 year old.

Amy- I'm with you on answer 3, definitely.

Soph- Yeah I'm loving Jamie Oliver too. Was last night's ep the final? Usually they have a clip of next weeks show, but they din't last night..

Pedro- Cauliflower rocks. Cooked nicely, with a white sauce, it's delish.

Simone- I've never watched Torchwood.. then again I've never watched the new Dr Who's either.

Georgina- I heartily agree with your thoughts on question 5.

ps- eww, ferrecumber..

Joanna- Yeah, I get dismayed too. I think for me it's about what Georgina said- that it makes me feel like they don't know me.

Ruth-Cute little ol' butterflies? Aww c'mon!

Never really seen the American Office. I was such a fan of the original that I din't give it a chance. I think it might be coming on tele soon, so I'll give it another go.

Ruth said...

I loved the English 'The Office' ..until I watched the U.S one. The American one is miles better, and has much more interesting characters. We're totally addicted... we went back to watch the english one a month ago - but were surprised how much we disliked it, and also how incredibly crude it was - although we loved it when we first saw it a few years ago.. The first season of the U.S office is dud, cause they just try to copy the english one, but from season two onwards, it is great.

I laughed this morning (at myself), a common little bird came out from behind a pole on the footpath today, and I jumped and screamed (how embarrassing - downtown Sutherland and all), and thought about how I wrote butterflies - I should have just said - absolutely everything in the animal kingdom I'm scared of!

Wendy said...

1. Sorry, not for sale.
2. Packed to the Rafters and The Mentalist.
3. Cockroaches.
4. Celery and spinach.
5. Mostly pleased. If they really do remember me from 10 years ago, though, they probably remember me as fat - it was the year I had my first baby. In that case it is probably not a compliment.

1. How much money would I have to give you, to get you to not eat chocolate for a whole year?
>> 5000€

2. Current favourite show
>> Futurama (because that's pretty much the only decent series we can find at the Stadtbibioltek)

3. Something you're irrationally afraid of
>> Loosing stuff out of my pockets while walking across bridges / piers

4. A vegetable you'd happily never eat again
>> Broadbeans.

5. You run into someone you haven't seen in ten years, and they say 'you haven't changed a bit'. Pleased or offended?
>> Offended. I totally have an English accent now.

1. $500 (because I am broke, not because I don't love chocolate)

2. The Mentalist

3. Heights

4. Mushrooms

5. Pleased (but I wouldn't believe it.)

Ben McLaughlin said...

Ruth- I would like to be a fly on the wall to see you freak out at a butterfly! But then again, maybe I wouldn't want to be a fly on the wall because you'd freak out at me too..

I can't imagine anything better than the UK version- It's my all time fav comedy, I reckon. But I'll give it a go.

Wendy- I'm not exactly frightened of cockroaches, but just absolutely loathe them with a passion. They make me irrationally angry-- how dare you set foot in my kitchen you vile, filthy little thing!

Andrew- Welcome! I like your irrational fear. I have a similar one with buses and trains. when I stand up to get off, I look back and scour the seat and floor to see if I've left anything.

Kristina-Wow.. mushrooms are so good though.. I would sorely miss them from a big cooked breakfast.
