I'm about a quarter thru. I'm liking it, but it's a bit more philosophical ramblings than 'this morning I went down to the creek and caught a fish with my bare hands', which saddened me a bit.

Yes, I can imagine. I have never actually read the whole book - there are some oft-quoted passages in it, which is all I know. And in the end, much as I empathise with people who want to live like that, it's very self-focused. Like that movie "Into the Wild" - it annoyed me because the guy was so selfish. You don't contribute anything to the lives of others by going off to ponder in a hut somewhere, except perhaps if you write a book, but even then ...
