1. mudcake
2. I was very political/extreme left wing at uni. Edited the student rag, went to all the war in Iraq protests and briefly played drums in a band. We did political covers of various popular songs - my brief foray into actually being cool. Dating and eventually marrying a liberal voter is one of the hardest things I've ever done (I am much more moderate in my views now, though!)
3. My phone ringing at 2am in the morning (I always think its a family member in a car accident or taken to hospital or something)
4. " Sophia Russell is debating whether $25/hour is worth it."
5. I'd love to say internet over books, but practically speaking, I'd have to give up books. Too much admin/bill paying/correspondence/organising/booking/research done over Internet!

1. Mudcake or lamington - both :-)
2. Something interesting we don't know about you - have I mentioned that one of my middle names is after one of my aunts?

4. Your last Facebook update - "enjoyed her half hour chat with Fiona Rumble, another Mackay friend. Shame we didn't have longer."
5. In absolute sworn honesty, if you had to either go without books or the internet for a year, which would you give up? - I'm with Pedro and onlinesoph on this one.

Pedro- Yeah, but whoever reads books online? Just aint the same.

Amy-Yeah the brakes screech.. You always hold yr breath to see if it's followed by a CRASH.

Soph- Great to hear about your fascinatingly militant past!

Beth- Mudcake is like a dense heavy chocolate cake. Lamingtons are an Aussie thing-- sponge cake covered in chocolate and dessicated coconut. Fluffy, yet delightful.

Goldy- You eat algae? Please explain. I'm picturing some strange bottom-feeding aquati animal..

Wendy- thankfully I've never experienced that sound.

Georgina- I'm with you, I reckon mudcake is overrated. Lamingtons are for a more delicate mature pallate. ps- wow, I didn't know you were from S.A..

Simone and Nathan- I'm lumping you both in together as you are my blog yin and yangs. I knew you both would keep the net over books. It's this dedication that makes you good bloggers!

Chris- Yikes to #3 -has that actually happened to you?

Ruth- I have a similar hobby issue. I hate when i get asked, and reply with some dullard thing, and then later remember how interesting I would have seemed had I listed off my numerous great hobbies!

Christine- Wow, I wouldn't have guessed you'd been blonde. I had pretty light hair too. I started dying at an early age.

Laetitia- do you reckon you'd really read a book online? I just cant imagine doing it.

The last two screeches I've heard have resulted in: a giant crash and 2 hours spent comforting a very drunk 16 year old without a licence, and a giant yelp and a nighttime hunt for an injured dog in pjs...

So yeah, cold horror stomach feeling every time now.

The algae thing - more specifically chlorella and spirulina. I'm trying it for my health problems. You can read all about it here - http://www.chlorellafactor.com/

Ben McLaughlin said...

Amy- Yuck, sounds terrible..

goldy- wow, that sounds strange but intriguing. They don't really try to make it look attractive do they- they've put oozy green slime all over the book cover. I hope you find it helpful. Sounds like it could help with some of my stomach issues too..

I regularly read first chapters of Christian fiction via a couple of blogs - it's a good way to see if you want to bother with the whole books, especially as Christian fiction is not easily and readily available at public libraries (unless it's a Dee Hendersen mystery).

I have downloaded several e-books. One was a drab thing that could have done with a Reader's Digest treatment - fortunately it was free and I didn't waste paper printing it or anything.
