1. A song that's been a favourite at some point in your life - The Only Way is Up - Yazz and the Plastic Population
2. What memories does that song bring back? - Struggling with study and mentally rewriting the lyrics on the basis that if I failed then the only way to go would be up; plus I like singing along - it suits my voice.
3. If you could go back and give your 18 year old self a piece of advice, what would it be? - Well, there's the usual stuff of 'Get a job so you can get a licence and car so you don't have to accept lifts from friends with dodgy driving habits / feel like a scab for always having to ask for a lift from someone' and 'Guys are just as scared of rejection as you are - ask that cute guy out or you'll wonder for years about how life might have been different' but I think now that I'm in my late 30s it'd be 'Get into exercise now so you aren't trying to lose flab in 20 years time when it's harder!'
4. What characteristics do you have, that make you a good friend? - hospitable, try to be generous with stuff, can discuss many things so can carry on a conversation (see 5); I don't know - ask one of my friends ;-) The problem is that I'd have a hard time defining what it is that makes my friends good to be friends with - not that they aren't but that I haven't analysed our friendships.
5. What characteristics do you have that don't? - time selfish, conversation hog.

George- You were the first of many of us to say 'loyal'. I think it's a very important trait, and one that is treasured in a friend.

Crazyjed-Yes, I think that's reassuring advice. When you're young you think you have to make all the big decisions and you're terrified of getting it wrong. But God always has a plan.

Julie-It'd be hard to get that message thru to our 18 year old selves I reckon!

Pedro-I agree with your number 4 answer. I definitely see all those things in you.

Sarah- I like that advice..

Belle- I think brutally honest friends are rare. It can be abrasive, but it's also really valuable, I reckon.

Ruth-That's a nice memory. Beautiful song too... they don't make 'em like they used to!

Jessica- Another nice dad memory. Good one.

Deb- I feel sad about all of my old tapes. They used to be a treasured possession.

Maso- when in town, will try to worm my way into the top 3...

Wendy- your number 3 is spot on. I wish I realised that earlier too.

Laetitia- I think generosity is an important trait. I reckon we can get into the habit of only being generous with what is easy for us to give, and kid ourselvs we are being generous. For example, it might be easy to give money or something, but maybe a lot harder to be generous with our time.
