I Dream of Screwdrivers

Last night I dreamt that I went into a tattoo parlour to research getting a tatt. This was the subconscious playing out what I secretly fantasise about doing.

Anyway, I was chatting with the elderly tattoo-doing guy, and I asked how much it was likely to hurt. This is what he said, word for word--

It's a bit like if you got a phillips-head screwdriver and scraped it around the roof of your mouth. It hurts a fair bit.

This was the subconscious telling me not to do what I secretly fantasise about doing.

This made me laugh. A lot.

From personal experience, it mainly depends on three things...one, where are you getting it, two...how do you typically respond to pain, and three....how much color will be included in the tattoo.

if you have a high pain threshold, first hurdle passed, the fleshier the area, the less pain, and the more color, the longer it takes to put the tattoo in, the more pain.

for the tattoos on my ankles, after the outline, the area numbs itself a little bit and once the tattoo is done if feels like a bad sunburn for a couple of days. my foot was the most painful, basically because there is no padding on the top of the foot. the pain lasted a little longer for that one.

but i would in no way compare it to a screwdriver being scraped across the roof of my mouth...way less than that.
