The Love
The bonsai love went AWOL for a couple of months there. I was sad. Thankfully it has returned. I fell asleep happily last night contemplating root buttresses and fine branch ramification.
Do you know, after I read this post this morning, I was watching Totally Wild (the kiddie wildlife show) this afternoon and they had a story about bonsai. Amazing.
The guy they featured in the story had hundreds of little bonsais (is that the plural??) all over his backyard. They were really cute. But what I found amusing was that his moustache and beard appeared to be just as carefully trimmed and neatened up...
Would have liked to have seen the program. And funnily enough I spent about 15 mins last night carefully trimming my face growth also. I think bonsai love breeds a strong urge to prune.
ps- thanks a lot, now I have the annoying Totally Wild theme song in my head.
I live in a little apartment and have a couple of bonsai plants that I have managed to keep alive for a number of years now. But i am really interested in learning more about how to grow them, and getting into the hobby more seriously. How did you learn about your bonsai plants and growing them? did you go to a course, or look on websites (which ones?)?
So sorry this reply is sooooo late!! Forgot at the time.
Bonnie- thanks, that's awesome!
dvm- The best thing is the library. Just go and borrow a few books, and you'll pretty easily find out the basics, and about the different styles etc. As for websites, I recently joined the AusBonsai forum, which is really great. People post pix of their plants, and people give advice etc. You learn heaps.
What sort of trees have you got? If you keep them indoors, maybe theyre figs or something?
