I Kan Spel Pritty Gud

What word do you always misspell?

For me it's 'definitely'. I genuinely believe deep in my water's that that second 'i' ought to be an 'a'.

Annoyingly I seem to use this dumb word about nine times in every blog post, and Mr Smart Alec spellcheck always corrects me. Shut up, spell check, you think your so great. What have you ever done.

If you think of 'finite', does it help?

occasionally. Gets me every time... sometimes it ocassionally, often occaisonally, and occasionally I get it right!

privilege - I can never remember how to spell it.

I recommend learning French. Because they don't have a schwa (the neutral vowel sound), you can hear what every vowel sounds like (hence a French person will say 'pree-vee-lezh'). And since we share so much vocab, it's remarkably useful.

This only occasionally causes confusion, with words like 'appartement', 'adresse', and 'responsable'.

Alternatively, just use an English spell-checker.

Lots of words I mispell - usually it's due to double letters. It started when I took up Spanish as a second language in 7th grade. Spanish is completely logical and phonetic, no double letters except RR and LL. It's ruined me for English.

Hey Bonnie and Ruth- I think I stuff both those words up also..

Stuart, I appreciate the thought, but I think I'd rather cow-tow to that jerk Spellcheck then go to the trouble of learning a whole other language!

And Tracy's story goes to show why learning other languages is bad.
