Sometimes you don't talk about stuff because you just assume that people agree with you. But then by chance you show your colours and make your views known, and you realise from the baffled faces that your assumptions have been wrong.My mind has been blown with the discovery that many, many folks believe that Cadbury chocolate is sub-standard, whereas Lindt is the real deal. Lindt? What sort of twisted, nightmarish fantasy world are these people living in? To top it off, these people actually scoffed at me, and looking down their noses, were like, 'Caaad-bury?'
Yes, numbnuts, you bet your britches, Cadbury.
The lovely purple wrapping with the Wonkaesque foil wrapping inside. The rich, full-bodied flavour. The perfect taste, the perfect texture. The wide range of interesting flavours, the pinnacle being fruit and nut. Untouchable.
Lindt, on the other hand, has always been the dud chocolates you got given as presents, that sit in the fridge for six months. You have one when you are truly desperate for a fix. Then you feel a little ashamed. The flavour's not quite right. The texture's all squelchy and wrong. And it's named after something you pull out of your belly button.
But anyway, I must bear with my weaker brethren, so I will leave it there. You eat your horrible chocolate and look down your nose ('it's from Switzerland, you know'), but one day, my friend, the scales will fall from your eyes, and you will see. Oh yes, you will see.

Ben, the photo of drooping pool of chocolate had drawn my gaze like a magnet to the article... I tend to agree with you. I give away all my Lindts and gauge on the cheaper-variety in private. I really do like them.

Its the nasty lindt aftertaste that gets me.
However, have you noticed that in the new packaging (cardboard) cadbury's has lost 75gms of chocolate. However not 75gms of price it would appear. Hmmmmm

Em, yeah the Switzerland aftertaste makes my eyes water. I was sad to see the new packaging (as I was to say goodbye to the old kitkat wrapping). I didn't know they reduced the quantity though..
hey mq2. I had this dilema the other day. I wanted to buy some chocolate for E, and the choice was a nice big block, or a box of Favourites for twice the price.
I knew the block was awesome, and unbeatable, and that the box as well as being twice the price, would also contain several flavours she wouldn't like much. Yet still I felt obligated towards the block because it looked fancier...
Would a block be a dud present to bring home? (for future reference)

can I just say Favourites are friggin' expensive. So are Roses. Cadbury's block chocolate is much better (way better than Lindt!)
What what what! You know what me and my enlightened friends say about Cadbury's - it's calorie wastage.
OK, so, it's not all bad (and it leaves American chocolate for dead, and they are getting somewhere with Old Gold Rum and Raisin), but seriously, if you going blow your daily count on chocolate, at least make it good!
Maybe it's just your youthfulness, and that of all most previous commentors, but HELLO - cadbury totally is not in the same category as LINDT!!! Lindt is mouthwateringly smooth, so absolutely delicious (what aftertaste?!?!), and has less sugar. I'll take a lindt ball anyday over a smaller, but still same price of cadburys chocolate.
Have you tried the new coles brand choc? It's very nice as well.... I'd put it half way between cadburys and lindt for taste...
(don't get me wrong, being utterly addicted to chocolate, if you were to offer me cadburys, I'd be eating it!!)... who leaves chocolates on top of the fridge for six months!?!?!

Who leaves chocolate for six months? My husband, that's who. He'll take pork floss or beef jerky over chocolate anyday. In fact, he bought a bar of chocolate for the first time ever when we were in NYC in March (he liked it because it's 100%cocoa) but still hasn't touched it. I, on the other hand, have sneaked a few pieces, rewrapped it so it looks untouched and placed it back in the fridge (don't tell, okay?)!
Oh, and I'm with Ruth, lindt is definately better. And Aust'n chocolate is generally better than US chocolate.
Hey, it's nice to get some back-up here! And, yes, I am not really chocolate snob and have been known to eat the odd Freddo Frog or Caramel Koala when desperate, but we're talking apples and oranges here.
Anyway, thanks for the prayers Ben - but you can just go and enjoy your Cadbury's with your nescafe ... (;) - actually, don't get me started on coffee snobbery, which is something I find rather hard to take about the inner-west, but have you noticed you can now get one-origin chocolate? - only in Lindt though, because Cadbury's is so old-school ;) ... It's only a matter of time till the obssession rivals coffee, or perhaps it already does - and maybe then we all need a recession to keep a grasp on reality.)

Has anyone tried Dagoba chocolate from right here in Southern Oregon, USA? We actually saw some in a vineyard store in the Hunter Valley.
I'd take Cadbury over Lint any day.
But recently, not only has Cadbury dropped their sizes (without prices) but they've also started adding vegetable fat to their chocolate... it makes it go further. I haven't noticed a taste difference but others claim they can.

yeah, I am kinda sad about the smaller size. I don't like the flatness.
