1. Recipe, or make it up as you go - recipe (I figure other people know more than I do about cooking) but I feel free to substitute or leave out ingredients I can't eat - no way am I putting capsicum or even a substitute for it in anything!
2. Do you have a recurring dream? - not currently but I do when traumatic things happen (like I kept dreaming that my cat was walking away from me after she got hit by a car)
3. Exercise of choice - horse-riding, but since I don't have access to that at the moment, something at the gym
4. How you'd like to spend $30 - at this time of year, stuff for an Operation Christmas Child shoebox - I get to buy "stuff" that won't stay in my house.
5. How many times do you wear a pair of socks (honestly) - twice - my feet basically don't sweat; this can actually be a problem in summer.
6. Something about yourself you didn't realise a few years ago - is that, "didn't realise until a few years ago"? - just how much of a homebody I really am
7. Number of coffees you have a day - bleah, I'm a tea / coke girl.
8. The blog you've started reading most recently - on a regular basis "Relz Reviewz"; could be tempted by some of the ones Simone has recently linked to on her sidebar though.
9. Are you on a Mac or a PC? - I'm on a chair; I'm using a PC. :-)
10. The five teens in The Breakfast Club are described as 'a brain, a beauty, a jock, a rebel and a recluse'. Which combination of two of these best describe you during high school? (Seriously, how good is this question?) - Brain and either rebel (more of a non-conformist) or recluse (I still wouldn't win any Popularity awards).

soph- Good on you for saying beauty. I knew everyone would be scared of saying that one! Yeah my issue with running is the boredom factor too.

em- It's weird isn't it, that you can not realise something, like that you are a perfectionist. You'd think that would be obvious growing up. I had a realisation of that same thing too.

simone- I like that you openly admit to liking time alone, and that you'd go to a cafe by yourself, as a first choice. I like my alone time too, and enjoy just sitting by myself in a cafe, observing.

beth- Yeah, you sort of discover your own strength as you experience different things, don't you. You start life feeling invincible, then you figure out, oh actually I'm very easily broken. And then from there you learn that you are actually strong too.

pedro- It's so good that you have a means of excersise that is also something that you love and want to do. I will never love jogging or want to do it! This is why I'm seriously considering your boxing suggestion though..

milika-What on earth is deep water running? Sounds bizarre but awesome..

guthers-gosh, $30 beer..that's gotta taste pretty good. I love beer, but I can't bring myself to spend much on it. What's yr fav?

nathan-Work socks 3 times? Oh, my friend, you have exceeded my high expectations. i feel a great bond with you right now.

lu-E is a mad Gilmore Girls fan. I used to hate it, but sort of got sucked in. We have all 7 or 8 series. E won't watch the last episode though.

Ben McLaughlin said...

Man, answering the quiz comments is a big job. I might employ a secratary to do the job for me. Deep breath..

Ben McLaughlin said...

georgina- E had a dream just the other night about teeth falling out. I hear it's a pretty common one. I wonder what the significance is.. Denturephobia?

amy-there's no need for eeww's. My feet smell like a summer breeze, with a hint of night blooming jasmine. If you've got it, flaunt it. Yuck, I have distubing dreams too. Not a nice feeling to wake up stressed..

maso- I'd wear jogging socks 3 or 4 times. Your supposed to smell when you excersise. it goes with the territory. I like yr number 6 answer. That's a cool realisation.

kutz- wow, that is a freaky dream.. was the guy familiar or just some random scary bloke?

andrew-welcome! nice to have you.I am generally anti-golf, but am considering trying it again. I think it might be a nice calming thing to do. No offence, but do you really get exercise out of it?

laetitia- I like capsicum, but it is very strong, and can overpower things a bit. My newish resolution is to not put olives and capsicum in the same thing, because they kind of cancel each other out.

Actually, I meant something you realise about yourself now, that you didn't a few years ago.

ruth-wow. sockless. Do you not get cold feet? The competitive thing comes out when you introduce strategy board games in to a marriage:)

Ben McLaughlin said...

I'm pretty surprised that 11 of you said you don't drink coffee. I didn't expect that.

Laetitia :-) said...

Coffee's over-rated. ;-) Smells nice (so long as it isn't burnt or on someone's breath) but the flavour just doesn't live up to the smell.

Nathan said...

Laetitia,

If the taste of coffee does not live up to the smell you need to get someone better to make you a coffee.

Amy said...

Sorry Nathan, but I agree with Laetitia.
Coffee (like many foods/drinks) just can't live up to the smell.

Even made by coffee nuts as obsessed as you are...

Hicksy said...

8. Duff McKagan
9. Mac
10. Rebel/Jock

Nathan said...

"Even made by coffee nuts as obsessed as you are..."

Given that I'm yet to make you a coffee this seems to be a little bit of an assumption.

Ruth said...

Who needs coffee, when you can be addicted to blogging instead!?!

Yeah, I've always been competitive with AB, we knew that from highschool days, but it surprised me how competitive I can be with other people. That was the surprise. I'm not that competitive anymore with board games - I just don't play the games I'm not going to win!

Guthers said...

Ben, I am very impressed by your commitment to answer all your commenters. Lesser bloggers would have revelled in the double-digit comments and neglected the conversation. Good form.
As for beer, I probably wouldn't spend $30 on just one, although that could be done. Maybe a six-pack. There is a beer called Coopers Vintage ale that is probably my fav. $25-30 for 6. But as with all food and drink, it's not necessarily the most expensive that tastes the best!

Ben McLaughlin said...

Hicksy- I'm totally with you with the realisation of hating animation. Strictly for toddlers and boffins.

Ruth- Good strategy!

As for the coffee debate. It's like a fine wine. Some taste it and think it's horrible and tastes like metho. Others, the more sophisticated of us, pick up the tender summer bouquet, the gentle oak barrel tones and the heady and rotund hint of the ocean in every sip.

It's all about education, sophistication and maturity. Us coffee appreciators must bear with our tea drinking weaker brethren.

Ben McLaughlin said...

Guthers, is that Coopers like the red or green one that you see a lot? I kind of like that, but find it a bit heavy going.. Is the vintage like that too?

Milika said...

Coffee is a dangerous substance.
My last coffee kept me awake for three days - obviously an extreme reaction, but how much would I have to drink to stop that effect?
Much better to avoid it and enjoy tea!

Ben - deep water running is basically that.
Jump into a deep pool and run from one side to the other, keeping the body upright and roughly in the water at shoulder height. It's fairly intense and no impact. New people wear a flotation belt to help at the start.

Guthers said...

Ben - same brand. Coopers have like 15 different beers. Vintage is much heavier then red ("sparkling ale") or green ("pale ale") so it may not be your cup of tea (or coffee).

Amy said...

Tea has the same amount of caffeine as coffee, my chemist-husband informs me.

Nathan - you are hereby challenged to make me a coffee next year when you're back in Brisbane, but I doubt it will change the outcome.

10. Brain and a jock. But where does music come in here? I spent a lot of time doing music.

Milika- would you believe that I actually had a dream last night that I was deep water running? My wife went for a swim last night, and that coupled with your info about this sport actually made me dream I was doing it! Funny. It was kind of fun, but I quickly ran out of breath and struggled to get to the surface quick enough.

wendy- Thanks for stopping by, it's nice to have you.

Yeah, i wouldn't mind having another crack at vollyball. It's a fun game. Though it often seems rather competitive, and that you can easily let your team down... too much pressure!
