I Know You're Being Very Sensible, But..

Your 'word verification' thingy is slowly killing my soul.

Turn it off. Please.

If you love me, you'll do this one small thing that I'm asking of you.

but Ben! I like seeing the kooky words that appear and try to think of meanings for them :)

Christine- Whatever floats your boat! I think that's fun for about four seconds..

Pedz- a drastic measure, but I support you in that.

done! unless spammers make a nuisance of themselves ... for the record, though, i refuse to turn off my moderation abilities -- my mother is far too likely to post far too revealing information if i don't!!

Mothers are dangerous that way.

Thanks Kim, your efforts have been noted.

I've never had captcha, nor a comment from Pedro. What am I doing wrong?

I love it when you type in the word verification code and it tells you you 'entered it incorrectly' and to 'try again'... a few times.

But my fave is when you forget a password to some subscription (like flybuys for instance) and then you ask for the password to be sent to you via email- only to find out that it's gone to your email address that is not used anymore because you are now with another provider (as you can't keep an optus address when you switch to Telstra)... needless to say there becomes something of a logic loop.

Then you try the old method of calling them on the phone- only to wind up saying 'yes' or 'no' to a choice of recorded options and getting passed back and forth- you finally get thru to someone of the breathing variety but they are unable to discuss the account as it was entered in your wife's name... Then- you get the account holder (aforementioned wife)to talk to whomever is the person designated to help (often with an accent stemming from somewhere in the sub-continent) and they inform you that your email address details need to be changed in the account... ON LINE!

"THE REASON WE CALLED IS BECAUSE WE CAN'T ACCESS OUR ACCOUNT ON-LINE!'

Another logic loop.

I give up!

someone of the breathing variety Heh!

I know, the simplest things seem to become ridiculously complicated sometimes.

I didn't know it was on, but it annoyed me on other people's blogs :D it's off now!

You go, girl/woman/lady

I had it turned off (via Simone's request).

The Chinese spammers had me put it back on.

Can you stop the spam?

Here is the reason I had to turn it on. For some reason the word propinquity was quite a hit with the chinese spammers

Wooah DVM, that's insane. I just had a look at your post, it's unbelievable how much spam you got on it! I guess I can't blame you for going hardline.

Izaac, I was having a lot of annoying spammer issues a few months back, and now I have zero. the only thing I changed was that I stopped annonymous commenting. It seems to have done the trick.

Pedro,

CAPTCHA is the technical name for word verification. Normally. I think it's an acronym, but I don't know what it stands for.
