You know you're getting older when you start to slow down and notice things more- patterns in nature, things that change with the seasons etc. I've noticed lately that these violet purple flowers are everywhere at the moment. Every street I walk down seems to be full of them, and dotted with purple. I've never really consciously noticed that before.Apparently they are called Tibouchinas (also known as Lasiandras, or 'Glory Trees'), and they are native to Brazil. They bloom right at the end of Summer and the start of Autumn.
Anyway, I'm sure I'll now notice this every year. Sort of like the exploding Jasmine heralds in Spring, the Tibouchina heralds in Autumn. I'm glad I know now.

The first autumn we lived down here, I also noticed those flowers everywhere - I had never seen them before.... so yeah, I'm getting older too!
Didn't you notice the one in our front yard.We knew the man who was responsible for first bringing them to Australia. Bill Bewley from Warrimoo whose son Kevin was a missionary in Argentina.
My parents have one beside their front steps. I've always loved it (even if theirs is a scraggly specimen) because it flowers around my birthday (mid Feb). :-)
